Description
Several small caves and the remains of many more man-made rock chambers once used for religious purposes; e.g. –>Pandava Cave, Dhauli, are situated on the hill Aswastama (KITTOE 1838a) or Aswastuma (KITTOE 1838b) near the village of Dhowlee (compare: Caves of –>Dhauli) above the banks of the Dyah (Daya River). KITTOE (1838a: 436): Beneath the [Mahadeva / Shiva] temple on the eastern and southern declivities are several small caves and the remains of many more … KITTOE (1838a: 437): … there is a fine temple dedicated to Ganesha and Mahadeva at the western cave of the hill … There are also many broken caves in the rocks adjoining the Aswastama …
