The vertical cave entrance (unidentified shape, unidentified dimensions) gave the impression of giving access to a pothole characterised by a shaft (note 1) which is obviously relatively tight and has or allows little room for maneuver as it caused on 6th February 2015 an air current to result in a nice draught (Anonymous [Arbenz T, Brooks S J et al.] 2015.04.03 Mss: Diary 2015.docx 6th February 2015 Friday). ETYMOLOGY: The origin, history and meaning of the recorded Khasi cave names Krem Sning (Kharpran Daly, B D 2002.03.07 Mss: Wahlong / Pala) and Krem Sning (2010) (Kharpran Daly, B D in: Anonymous 2015.04.03 Mss: Diary 2015.docx 6th February 2015 Friday) has not yet been identified but seems to be based on the Khasi words -ka [dieng] sning- and -u sning- for an evergreen species of the beech family (Fagaceae), namely a Castanopsis species (note 2), which, however, is often taken as a kind of oak (note 3). SITUATION 2002.03.07: Somewhere in the vicinity of Pala (25°24'43”N: 92°34$$09”E) is a cave called Krem Sning (Kharpran Daly, Brian D 2002.03.07 Mss: Wahlong / Pala, item Pala #6 Krem Sning). SITUATION 2015.02.06: On the one-hand side in a depression on the left-hand side but on the other in an unspecified spatial relation Nearby … an other, much larger depression with pinnacle karst to expose Krem Lawan (Anonymous [Arbenz T, Brooks S J et al.] 2015.04.03 Mss: Diary 2015.docx 6th February 2015 Friday). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2015.02.06: Krem Sning (2010) … turned out to be a shaft with a nice draught (Anonymous 2015.04.03 Mss: Diary 2015.docx 6th February 2015 Friday).
