Description
Not a trace of a cave name, which is known to people familiar with the area, has been identified for an undescended and only almost descended pothole cave entrance (about estimated 2 m by 5 m wide) that has been nicknamed Grass Ski-ing Pot and is imagined to be unexplored 30 m deep (Boycott 2004.02.19 Mss: Grass Ski-ing Pot 19/2/04) or not surveyed 20 m deep (Arbenz, T 2004.02 Mss: Abstracts.xls). ETYMOLOGY: Grass Sking Pot (Brooks 2004.09.23 personal correspondence) corresponds to the original Grass Ski-ing Pot (Boycott 2004.02.19 Mss -Grass Ski-ing Pot- 19/2/04) and was caused by AB nearly sliding down into it on cut vegetation. The Khasi -liat krak- means to slip down as -u doctor ka liat krak ha krem- means the doctor that slipped down into the cave (SINGH, N 1906: 46). The Khasi -u phlang- is the grass while the verbs -liat lor- and -ùr- and -syntúid- designate varieties of to slip and to slip down (SINGH, N 1906: 117, 157, 217). SITUATION (Boycott 2004.02.19 Mss Grass Ski-ing Po 19/2/04): This cave entrance is easily found as it lies on ridge overlooking entrance to Liat Prah. CAVE DESCRIPTION (Brooks, S J 2004 undated Mss: Amendment to Boycott 2004.02.19 Mss: -Grass Ski-ing Pot- 19/2/04): Stones fell for 1.5 to 2 secs onto a mud floor —est. depth 20 m.
