Location
Take Highway 41 from Chumphon town for 55km til you see a large hill with a temple on the side to your right (this is 5km past the Khao Pip Intersection). Take the next U turn and head north about 500m taking the first road to the left. This road will take you round to the steps up to the cave, about 1km. There are some buildings at the base of the hill with a concrete hard standing where you can park. The path up to the cave was not easy to find as it was very overgrown when we visited in August 2015. Just look for the electrical cable going up the hill. It is a moderate climb up and therefore care should be taken. Handrails have been installed in areas to assist.
Description
At the cave entrance there is a 15 m drop. A steel staircase has been placed here to aid descent. But from here on it is all natural cave so be careful it can be slippery and the vines make trip hazards. Whilst an electrical cable runs up to the cave we found no lighting installed in the cave. This was not a problem for the large opening in the roof and with the aid of a torch it was easy to move around. A large number of bats were found and they were constantly flying around as we explored. Usually have found Buddha images in the caves, but there was none in this one. However there were some on the climb up to the cave. With the cave entrance being 87 m up the hill this offers a nice view across the plantations of Thung Tako. That's if you can see through the undergrowth. Bat collection and archaeological site.
