Description
A rectangular cave entrance (0.5 m by 0.8 m wide and high or hide and wide) in sandstone gives access to a relatively small but, on the other hand, comparatively large spring of water or seasonal resurgence (Brooks, S J 2014.12.26 Mss: 17-02-2014 Krem Amsong.doc). ETYMOLOGY: The recorded Amwi Khasi cave name -Krem Amsong- as such is not a specific cave name as it refers to a -krem- or cave named after its location on an -am- or stream [of water] which is characterised by being -song- or something packed or tied up (note 1). SETTING: On the interfluve between the Um Tyrngai in the west and the Um Ryngka in the east in an area where Lower Eocene to Upper Palaeocene: Thanetian (Lower Sylhet stage) Lakadong Limestone is exposed on the surface (NAG & PAL 1996). SITUATION: About 1.5 km in a direct line east of Pdengshakap (N25°14': E092°09') and south of the road to Tarangblang (N25°12'22”: E092°12'30”) or adjacent to a road culvert and bridge (Brooks, S J 2014.12.26 Mss: 17-02-2014Krem Amsong.doc). APPROACH: Leave Pdengshakap on the road to Tarnagblang. The cave lies on a rising of the road ( when heading to Tarngblang) above the GPS point (Brooks, S J 2014.12.26 Mss: 17-02-2014 Krem Amsong.doc). SPORTS DEVICE DESCRIPTION 2014.12.25: The rather rectangular (0.5 m by 0.8 m) than square entrance enters a crouching height (1.1 m) passage, descends and swings left (328°) to enter a 4 m dip. Closes in low bedding and sump (Brooks, S J 2014.12.26 Mss: 17-02-2014 Krem Amsong.doc). SPORTS DEVICE DESCRIPTION 2014.04.05: A modest 6 m of passage ending in [sic! qua: leading to] a sump / flooded area (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 16th February, Sunday).Krem Amsong.doc). EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2014.02.16: Charles Slong or his daughter Aiom Pamthied had arranged for the two guides Shailang Pakyntein and Lan Mulad who instructed Brian D. Kharpran Daly, Simon J Brooks, Fraser E. Simpson, Roger Galloway and Annie U Audsley how to travel by car (Scorpio) from Pdeinshakap (sic! qua: Pdengshakap) some 3 km in an unidentified direction (east) along the road towards Tarangblang to visit, enter and exit Krem Amsong (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 16th February, Sunday). On this occasion, Simon Brooks and Roger Galloway [prefered to ignore their caving instructor and announced to have all on their own] located, explored and surveyed the cave (Brooks, S J 2014.12.26 Mss: 17-02-2014 Krem Amsong.doc).
