A cave yielding 286 m of stream passage terminated in a crawlway too narrow to enter (WARREN 2004: 250). ETYMOLOGY: The Khasi cave name -Krem Phud Mawiong- translates as Cave [on the] Streambed [of the] Black Stone as the Khasi noun ”ka phúd” (or -phot- MAMALLAN et al. 1995) is the bed of a stream; a mountain gorge (SINGH, N 1906: 158; SINGH, N 1920: 40) or gully and the Khasi -mawiong- means black stone and is an imitative for coal (note 1). So far, I saw the name of this cave spelled as Krem Phud Maw Iong Barbara am Ende on (accessed 27.03.2003, 15.05.2003), and Krem Phud Mawiong Kharpran Daly (1997 Mss item 20) and Krem Phod Maw Iong Zawada (21.04.2004 Mss, 24.04.2004 Mss), ALLISON KOSIOR (2004b: 16) is translated into -Black Stone River Cave- by Barbara Anne am Ende (accessed 27.03.2003, 15.05.2003), WARREN (2004: 250) and Zawada (21.04.2004 personal correspondence, 24.04.2004 personal correspondence). SITUATION: At the edge of a26m-waterfall at one of the two ends of the Phud Mawiong, a perennial streambed and seasonal stream somewhere on Lum Iawpaw, the hill above Nongnah (schoolhouse 25°15'56.8”N: 91°19'32.9”E: 1017.9 m, unidentified precision error, Scott Linn, undated December 2002, GPS Garmin Etrex).26m-waterfall at one of the two ends of the Phud Mawiong, a perennial streambed and seasonal stream somewhere on Lum Iawpaw, the hill above Nongnah (schoolhouse 25°15'56.8”N: 91°19'32.9”E: 1017.9 m, unidentified precision error, Scott Linn, undated December 2002, GPS Garmin Etrex).
