An unspecified cave entrance (unidentified shape, unidentified dimensions, unidentified orientation, unidentified characteristics) is the only known upper cave entrance to Krem –>Wah Shikar and was understood to represent a more or less large swallet [note 1] at the base of a cliff giving access to circa 450 m of calcited streamway entering Wah Shikar via a duck (Sheen, R F 2005.02.20 Mss: Krem Brisang; Sheen, R F 2005.08.20 Mss: Meghalaya 05). Secondary calcite formations (speleothems) gave the impression of being present. ETYMOLOGY: No specific cave name has been identified for what was called -Krem Brisang, Mulait- or Recently Cleared Woodland Cave at [the village called after] the Rock of Mistakes.The Khasi -ka bri- (noun) signifies a grove, an estate, a farm while the verb -s'ang- is a short form of -syang- and means to roast, to toast (SINGH, N 1906: 180, 14). Needless to say that such a -roasted grove- is a short lived geographical feature: A piece of -jhumed- forest that hasbeen slashed and burned to be cultivated soon. The Synteng / Pnar Khasi noun -u mu- is the same as the standard Khasi -u maw- and signifies a rock, a stone and -ka lait- is the word for a mistake (SINGH, N 1906: 109). SITUATION: Krem Brisang, map square Khaidong, N25°21'20.9”: E092°31'36.5”; dicovery date 16.02.2005, dicovery by RS [perhaps Robin F. Sheen], FS [perhaps Fraser Simpson], GM [perhaps Graham Marshall]; last visit: 20.02.2005, RS, TA [perhaps Thomas Arbenz], GM , survey completed 12,2005 by RS [perhaps Indian Rupees]; comment: connected Wah Shikar (Arbenz, T 2005.02 Mss: Abstracts.xls). APPROACH 2005a: Starting on the pathway by 'Lost world doline @ GPS N 25 21 30.3 E 092 31 23.5 [note 2] proceed down the path on the Mulait ridge [note 3] in an E/NE direction [sic! for: east-south-east] for 500 m [sic! for: 330 m in a direct line] to GPS N 25 21 24.7 E 092 31 35.2 Turn on a bearing of 220 degrees [south-east] down steeply through pine groves into the ravine. The cavelies at the base of a cliff (Sheen, R F 2005.02.20 Mss: Krem Brisang). APPROACH 2005b: Take somebody's jeep to the village of Khaidong and to walk in the sun down the ridge through tomato and banana plantations and turn right at the dead snake junction: Among the karst 2 small climbs down and then chest deep in cold water (YUEN, L 2005: 53). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2005a: The cave is a large swallet at the base of a cliff giving access to circa 450 m of calcited streamway entering Wah Shikar [sic! but probably not the stream but the cave] via a duck (Sheen, R F 2005.02.20 Mss: Krem Brisang) CAVE DESCRIPTION 2005b: Krem Brisang swallet gave 500 m of delightful Clare-like canyon passage, linking via a duck, into the previously known system Wah Shikar (Hunters hole) (Oops: Who and when? Jarratt?). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2005c: Among the karst 2 small climbs down and then chest deep in cold water. The passages are fairly narrow and wet, ranging from having to duck to just downright deep. … The passaes were well decorated, impressive stals and calcite [note 4] (YUEN, L 2005: 53).
