Description
A small stream sink blocked by massive calcite formations (Whitaker & Glanvill 2008.02.19 Mss) or speleothems. ETYMOLOGY: The original field-name Unamed Nr Krem Pohjintep (sic!) of Whitaker (2008.02.19 Mss) is problematic insofar, as a) there exists neither a Khasi nor an English term -unamed- only the English -unnamed- (un-named, not named) b) the Khasi -ka jintep- would mean a fairy's burial while the Khasi -ka jingtep- meaning a grave had been intended and c) the compounded expression -pohjingtep- reflects a misunderstood -poh jingtep- (note 1). The alternative filed-name Krem Pohjintep N°2 of Simon J. Brooks (undated amendment to Whitaker 2008.02.19 Mss) repeats the abovementioned mistakes but is even more problematic and confusing as there already exists a 2nd Krem poh Jingtep, which is cave entrance 5 of Krem –>Shrieh (Khaidong) - Wah poh Jingtep (cave system). SITUATION 1: T.M. Whitaker (2008.02.19 Mss) places this cave entrance about 10 m west of a certain Krem Pohjintep [sc!] -short ladder entrance (possibly is Krem poh –>Jingtep 1) and just north of track from Khaidong (note 2) without orientation or distance to Wah Krea Tabong (note 3) and in a cliff without dimensions or orientation, which, in spring 2008, was near a banana grove and hence must be easy to find as there are hundreds around. POSITION: N25°21'36.3”: E92°30'47.0” (WGS 84, note 4): 1039 m asl (K. Janossy 2008.02.19, Etrex) but at an estimated distance of 7 m without orientation from the cave entrance itself (Whitaker2008.02.19 Mss). CAVE DESCRIPTION (Peter Glanvill in: Whitaker 2008.02.19 Mss): Cave with minor inlet on the same rift slopes down gently and calcite formations increase. Low area under stal leads to 3 m pot (sling useful) and water vanishes in small, calcited fissure. Left [sic! without orientation] leads to calcited rift heading back parallel to the entrance. Ends in [sic! gives access to] massive stalagmite blockage. PROSPECTS: According to Whitaker (2008.02.19 Mss), nl in addition to the interesting notion that this (either the -nil- or the cave itself) may be a possible higher entrance (note 5). CAVE CLIMATE: Peter Glanvill (in: Whitaker 2008.02.19 Mss) noticed on 19th February 2008 at a neglected hour of the day an air current without identified direction, recorded an interesting draft [sic! qua: draught?] in entrance but found the air flow totally stagnant in lower parts -- probably of the cave. CAVE LIFE: The professional biologist Terence -Terry- Whitaker (2008.02.19 Mss) was a keen observer of sort of woodlice, spiders, rats (Araneae: Arachnidae; Isopoda, Rhodentia var.).l in addition to the interesting notion that this (either the -nil- or the cave itself) may be a possible higher entrance (note 5). EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2008.02.19: Terry [Terence M.] Whitaker (2008.02.19 Mss: Unamed Nr Krem Pohjintep) and Peter Glanvill found a small stream sink which they entered and exited to claim a full survey (sic!) --perhaps counting the draft in entrance as a cave survey (cave plan). Brown, Mark W. et al. (2008 Mss: 'Meghalaya 2008 diary' Tuesday 19th February) confirm that Terry and Pete G. … found and surveyed a new cave near Pohjingtep as if they had surveyed it. This is not the case. According to Simon J. Brooks (undated amendment to Whitaker 2008.02.19 Mss: Unamed Nr Krem Pohjintep), the two full surveyors performed visit, explored.
