BRAMHA RISHI CAVES

Description
SALUNKE (2003: Mahabaleshwar Town Map) indicates Bramha Rishi Caves at an estimated travelling distance of 3 km or 4 km along the road approximately east-south-east of Old Mahabaleshwar (note 1) and somewhere in the area north of the Elphinstone Point Road on the way to Arthur Seat Point in the extreme north-west corner of the Mahabaleshwar Hills. ETYMOLOGY: In my eyes, Brahma (SALUNKE 2003) makes no sense -- unless it is a version of Brahma (note 2) or Brahmin (note 3). Rishi is the Indic word for any poet, philosopher, saint or sage; originally a sage whom the hymns of the Vedas were revealed (note 4) and the honorific plural caves (Indian Journalese wording) signifies more often than not a single cave or rock shelter.SALUNKE (2003: Mahabaleshwar Town Map) indicates Bramha Rishi Caves at an estimated travelling distance of 3 km or 4 km along the road approximately east-south-east of Old Mahabaleshwar (note 1) and somewhere in the area north of the Elphinstone Point Road on the way to Arthur Seat Point in the extreme north-west corner of the Mahabaleshwar Hills. History
EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2007.02.14: Andre Abele and HDG attempted to trace down on their own the Bramha Rishi Caves with the help of the crude map of SALUNKE (2003: Mahabaleshwar Twn Map) --an exercise of futility.
