Description
A roundish cave entrance (about 0.7 m wide and 1.7 m high) seems to give access to a tunnel cave where a solitary, phreatic-shaped cave passage decreases upstream in size and leads to an insurgence cave entrance without identified shape, unspecified dimensions and unidentified orientation at an unspecified location (Dawson, H B 2010.02.19 undated Mss: Krem K-Inlet 2). EVALUATION: Erosion tube along crack in limestone cliff (Arbenz, T 2011.10.28 Mss: Henry Dawson 16thFeb.2010 Kopili Inlet 2). ETYMOLOGY: See –>Kopili Inlet One. SITUATION 2010: Dawson, H B (2010.02.19 undated Mss) locates Krem K-Inlet 2 without identified spatial relation to anything in overhanging limestone cliffs [which face an unidentified direction; deleted: at a level] next to the [Kopili] river [and] almost straight out the boat and into the [entrance to the] cave. Arbenz, T (2010.03.31 cave distribution map: Pala_Ridge_4-10.pdf) indicates Krem K-Inlet 2 Dawson 2010 ¬ 706 m above the orographically right (locally estern) bank of the Kopili River (North Cachar district, Assam) and about 600 m in a direct line south (upstream along the Kopili River) from the almost abandoned village of Umsuwe (N25°26'35”: E092°36'08” WGS84 Arbenz, T 2010.03.31 cave distribution map: Pala_Ridge_4-10.pdf). POSITION 2010: Near (allegedly ±14 m) N25°26'15.4”: E092°36'09.6” : 706 m asl (WGS84, Arbenz T 2010.02.19 GPS Garmin Etrex Summit in: Dawson, H B 2010.02.19 Mss: Krem K-Inlet 2 undated). POSITION 2011: Near (allegedly ±14 m) N25°26'15.4”: E092°36'09.6” : 705 m asl (WGS84, H. Dawson 16.2.2010 Garmin e-Trex in: Arbenz, T 2011.10.28 Mss: Henry Dawson 16thFeb.2010 Kopili Inlet 2 / K- Inlet 2). APPROACH 2010: Follow [the] Shaktiman track [note 1] from [deleted: Pala] Kseh [note 2] down [note 3] to the river Kopili. Near Krem Labbit [note 4] get a boat [note 5]. Paddle downstream for about 20 minutes to G.P.S. co-ordinates [note 6] (Dawson, H B 2010.02.19 undated Mss: Krem K-Inlet 2). APPROACH 2011: From th Kseh jetty … take a boat downstream. Paddle for roughly 700m to the GPS position on the Assam side. Get the boat along the low cliff face to reach the entrance at head hight (Arbenz, T 2011.10.28 Mss: Henry Dawson 16thFeb.2010 Kopili Inlet 2 / K- Inlet 2). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2010: [The cave] Entrance is a clean-washed tube [note 7] approx. 0.7 m wide by 1.7 m high. [The] cave is [relatively] small [without comparison for scale] and quickly reduces in size to near crawling [without identified direction] before breaking out the other side of the limestone to daylight (Dawson, H B undated 2010.02.19 Mss: Krem K-Inlet 2) at an unspecified cave entrance (insurgence) without identified shape, unspecified dimensions, and unidentified orientation at an unspecified location without identified spatial relation to the downstream entrance (resurgence). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2011: The entrance is in the base a 8 m limestone cliff, keyhole-shaped and 0.7 m wide by 1.7 m high facing west. The cave is a staight passage leading gradually upwards, narrowing down and finally cutting through the cliff into the open after about 10 m. Some roots and humus (Arbenz, T 2011.10.28 Mss: Henry Dawson 16thFeb.2010 Kopili Inlet 2 / K- Inlet 2). Kseh jetty … take a boat downstream. Paddle for roughly 700m to the GPS position on the Assam side. EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2010.02.19: An unidentified Kseh village headman (no name mentioned) arranged for a chap called Rastan Man (also from the village of Kseh) to provide a boat for Thomas Arbenz, Henry Boswell Dawson and Phrang Kupar 'Teddy' Mawlong: The head man joined us and we rowed about 5 km in either directions from the bank of the Kopili. Two more cave entrances were found and an inlet was spotted near the end of the downstream section [note 8] which the head man reported contained water that came from Umkhrypong [sic!] (Anonymous et al. 2010.03.29 Mss: Diary (current) 2010.doc: 19th February 2010). On the other hand, we are told about a guide Mynlin Manar in connection with 16th Feb 2010: H. Dawson on recce trip (Arbenz, T 2011.10.28 Mss: Henry Dawson 16thFeb.2010 Kopili Inlet 2 / K- Inlet 2, 16.2.2010).
