Description
An unspecified cave entrance (unidentified shape, unidentified dimensions, unidentified orientation, unidentified characteristics) is said to give access to an about 80 m long single passage cave, which gave the impression of being somehow »enlarged by stone quarrying« (CÍLEK et al. 1989: 3). SITUATION: On the hill Naupane Dara, above the western (orographically right) bank of the Kali Gandaki, and an estimated 40 m to 150 m above the village of »Bainsbare« or »Basbari« (note 1), which lies at a travelling distance of about 11 km along the road from Kathmandu south via Pharphing (note 2) to Dakshinkali (note 3). CAVE DESCRIPTION: Altogether »… seven small caves including two larger ones can be found [above Bainsbare / Basbari]. The caves are single halls enlarged by stone quarrying to the height of up to 8 m« (CÍLEK et al. 1989: 3). CAVE POTENTIAL: »Because of impurity and small thickness of marble no larger caves can be expected in this area. Anyhow, the place is suitable for studying embryonic karst features including narrow chasm up to 7 m deep« (CÍLEK et al. 1989: 3).
NOTE 1: »Bainsbare« (CÍLEK et al. 1989: 3) is indicated as »Basbari« near N27°37': E085°17': 1440 m asl on the Kathmandu Valley 1: 50'000 map (Schneider 1977 ed. 1989). NOTE 2: Pharphing N26°36'20”: E85°16'00”: 1570 m asl (Kathmandu Valley 1: 50'000 Schneider 1977 ed. 1989). NOTE 3: Dakshinkali N27°35'40”: E085°15'50” (Kathmandu Valley 1: 50'000 Schneider 1977 ed. 1989).
