Description
A complex of merging dolines (much generalized in ground plan resembling a letter -n- tilted counter-clockwise by 90 degrees), which occupies about two thirds of an area 25 m in square, is enterable in the south-eastern corner by clambering some 8 m down and turning first north (right) and then east (right) for the cave entrance proper, which gives access to a pothole (note 1) where a local woman [no name mentioned] … is believed to have fallen down (Jarratt, A R 2002.02.26 Mss: Krem Wiarbru). ETYMOLOGY: The origin, history and meaning of recorded cave name Krem Wiarbru (Larsing Sukhlain, February 2001 personal communication) or Krem Wiar-bru (Carlyn Phyrngap, February 2003 personal communication) escaped the observation power of expedition cavers. It seems not only to translate as Cave [of the] loudly shouting Person (note 2) but also to be based on the tale according to which a local woman … is believed to have fallen down (Jarratt, A R 2002.02.26 Mss: Krem Wiarbru). SITUATION 2002.2.26: In the olden days, when the world was young, the entrance of Krem Wiarbru … [was] just beyond what had been in spring 2002 a cleared area with ancient stone embankments somewhere on path [note 3] from Tongseng to Krem Ticha, and just beyond cleared area with ancient stone embankment (Jarratt, A R 2002.02.26 Mss: Krem Wiarbru). SITUATION 2003.03.11: Jarratt, A R (2003.03.11 Mss: Krem Wiar-Bru) placed the four caves known as Krem Wiar-Bru, Krem Wiarbru, Krem -Kama-, Thloo Krang 1 nowhere. POSITION 1: ±8 m 25°19'53.5”N: 92°30'45.5”E: 1050 m (Matthalm, T 2001.02.25 GPS Garmin 12). POSITION 2: ±11 m 25°19'53.6”N: 92°30'45.7”E: 1087 m (Harries, D B 2003.03.24, GPS). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2002.02.26: Visited 2001, undescended (Jarratt, A R 2002.02.26 Mss: Krem Wiarbru). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2003.03.11: Thomas Matthalm should be doing a cave record sheet for this cave — this is extra information (Jarratt, A R 2003.03.11 Mss: Krem Wiar-Bru) CAVE DESCRIPTION 2005.07.27: I vaguely remember rem Wiarbru being a huge open pothole over 20 m deep (Jarratt 2005.07.27 Mss: Amendments to South Asia Cave Register 2002.04.18). PROSPECTS 2002: Undoubtedly drops into Umthloo (Jarratt 2002.02.26 Mss: Krem Wiarbru) PROSPECTS 2003: Three sumps at base of final pitch. At least one of these [diving spots] should connect easily into the main streamway of the Umthloo System. Diver needed. There is also an unexplored horizontal passage below a 2.5m-climb in surface gully. This will almost certainly lead to a deep pot (Jarratt 2003.03.11 Mss: Krem Wiar-Bru). CULTURAL HISTORY -- cave legend (keyword: exitcave): A local woman tending crops in the area disappeared and is believed to have fallen down this pothole (Jarratt, A R 2002.02.26 Mss: Krem Wiarbru). A local woman disappeared here (See original record sheet) (Jarratt, A R 2003.03.11 Mss: Krem Wiar-Bru).2.26: In the olden days, when the world was young, the entrance of Krem Wiarbru … [was] just beyond what had been in spring 2002 a cleared area with ancient stone embankments somewhere on path [note 3] from Tongseng to Krem Ticha, and just beyond cleared area with ancient stone embankment (Jarratt, A R 2002.02.26 Mss: Krem Wiarbru).
