Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A sacred (?), relatively huge and very high rift cave (note 1), daylight lit throughout, is situated in a Ziarat (note 2) at the foot of the Koh Zamburak Massif (note 3) and above the left bank of the river Sanglakh (note 4) in the north of Jalrez (note 5). CAVE POTENTIAL: LINDBERG (1958: 116) says to have distinguished entrances to caves high up in the spacious fissure of which he explored only the lower parts. CULTURAL HISTORY: The natural cave, probably modified by man, is obviously used by Shia Muslims as a temple cave. LINDBERG (1958: 116) ascribes the site to the twelve prophets (note 6) but it could be dedicated to the twelfths prophet himself.A sacred (?), relatively huge and very high rift cave (note 1), daylight lit throughout, is situated in a Ziarat (note 2) at the foot of the Koh Zamburak Massif (note 3) and above the left bank of the river Sanglakh (note 4) in the north of Jalrez (note 5).
