Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

An estimated 30 m x 5 m x 5 m deep cleft / gully in sandstone or choked gully with a hint of passages leading on (slight draught) (Brooks, S J 2014.12.26 Mss: 16-02-2014 Krem Lymbiat Pdengshakap.doc) gives access to a cave rather more extensive than it first appeared (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 22nd February, Saturday).ETYMOLOGY: One or both of the apparently two distinct cave names Krem Lymbiat anonymous Brooks, S J et al. (2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 22nd February, Saturday; Brooks, S J 2014.12.26 Mss: 16-02-2014 Krem Lymbiat Pdengshakap.doc) and Krem Lymbit Anonymous (2014.04.05 Expedition Survey Log 2014 (8-3-2014).xls) seem to refer to a bat cave but may represent Krem Lympiat or Trow Down Cave if not Dash to Pieces Cave (note 1). SETTING: On the interfluve between the Myntu (Hari River) in the east and the Um Ryngka in the west, and about 300 m in a direct line (some 500 m on foot) south-west of the Pdengsakap - Tarangblang road in an area halfway between Pdengshakap and Tarangblang (at linear distances of 3.65 km ESE from Pdengshakap N25°14': E092°09' and 3.4 km NW of Tarangblang N25°12'22”: E092°12'30”). SITUATION: In exposed cliff of sandstone of the Pdenshakap - Tarangblang road (Brooks, S J 2014.12.26 Mss: 16-02-2014 Krem Lymbiat Pdengshakap.doc). APPROACH: Leave Pdengshakap - Tarangblang road at N25°13'41.9”: E092°11'13.9” and head SW on 4WD track. At point N25°13'38.0”: E092°11'12.5” leave the track and head west on a footpath go generally uphill. At point N25°13'35.2”: E092°11'09.6” turn onto another path and head on NW 330° through scrub. Path leads to sandstone edge and gully / cave entrance N25°13'35.7”: E092°11'07.8”: 787 m asl (Brooks, S J 2014.12.26 Mss: 16-02-2014 Krem Lymbiat Pdengshakap.doc). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2014.02.16: 30 m+ of passage (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 16th February, Sunday). CAVE ESCRIPTION 2014.02.22: Rather more extensive than it first appeared (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 22nd February, Saturday). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2014.12.26: Sort of a cleft / gully in sandstone is an estimated 30 m x 5 m x 5 m deep and was interpreted to represent a choked gully with a hint of passages leading on (slight draught) (Brooks, S J 2014.12.26 Mss: 16-02-2014 Krem Lymbiat Pdengshakap.doc). CAVE LIFE: Simon J Brooks, Fraser E. Simpson, Roger Galloway, Annie U Audsley and Brian D. Kharpran Daly had joined forces to notice on 16th February 2014 an apparent diurnal presence of no bats (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 16th February, Sunday). Simon J. Brooks and David -Cookie- Cooke returned to this cave on 22nd February 2014 when partly air-filled space in the interior of Krem Lymbiat (Pdengshakap) … proved to be full of wildlife including particularly large spiders (anonymous Brooks, S Jet al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 22nd February, Saturday) and the latter may represent, but this is mere guesswork, specimens of the giant crab spider (Arachnidae: Araneae: Sparassidae: conf. Heteropoda).et al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 22nd February, Saturday) and the latter may represent, but this is mere guesswork, specimens of the giant crab spider (Arachnidae: Araneae: Sparassidae: conf. Heteropoda).

History

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2014.02.16, trip 1: Charles Slong or his wife's daughter (perhaps the esteemed youngest, a khadduh, Aiom Pamthied by name) had arranged for the two guides Shailang (also: Shallang) Pakyntein and Lan Mulad who instructed Brian D. Kharpran Daly, Simon J Brooks, Fraser E. Simpson, Roger Galloway and Annie U Audsley how to travel by car (Scorpio) from Pdeinshakap (sic! qua: Pdengshakap) some 3 km in an unidentified direction (possibly east) along a road towards Tarangblang to proceed from Krem –>Amsong for an unidentified distance into an unidentified direction to the cave entrance of what was not only quickly entered, rapidly penetrated and, on the long run, fully exited but also recorded as Krem Lymbiat (Pdengshakap) (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 16th February, Sunday). 2014.02.22, trip 2: Simon J. Brooks and David 'Cookie' Cooke suddenly discovered that partly air-filled space inside Krem Lymbiat (Pdengshakap)is more or less full of wildlife including particularly large spiders and gained a point of view according to which expedition cavers proved that the visitable part of this cave is rather more extensive than it first appeared. Cookie, using his PDA for the first time, mapped [sic! qua: compiled data which, in the end, resulted in] 190 m. Exiting from the cave the team walked back towards Pdengshakap where they met the Sumo along the way. Meanwhile Mama the driver had been to Armalam [sic! qua: Amlarem N25°17'10”: E092°06'16”] where he had successfully got both fuel and beer (anonymous Brooks, S J et al. 2014.04.05 Mss: Diary Meghalaya 2014 Second Edit: 22nd February, Saturday).
