Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A rift cave entrance without identified size or orientation gives access to an estimated 20 m long rift cave passage (note 1) without identified direction and an unidentified vertical range of either plus or, more likely, of minus 15 m. In the final analysis, P N F Dowswell had the impression that the cave entrance appears to take a small surface stream in wet weather (Dowswell & Brooks 2000.02.14 Mss: Krem Mawshun 3). SITUATION: Below a slight limestone hump (Dowswell & Brooks 2000.02.14 Mss: Krem Mawshun 3) or, to be precise (harumph), about 35 m downhill to the right (without identified direction) of the track from Lelad to the first Krem –>Mawshun, and some 15 m beyond the latter. Geologically, the rift cave entrance to the third Krem Mawshun may be found, but this is mere guess work (H D Gebauer), at the edge of the caprock (Kopili Alternations) in the uppermost section of the nummulitic Kopili Limestone. CAVE DESCRIPTION: A 10 m climb down in a rift which lengthens at bottom. A treamway off to the left and about towards 045° leads after 6 m to a chamber. An aven lies off to the back of this chamber. To the right is a squeeze down to a further chamber about 2.5 m diameter and a thin rift -- too tight to follow -- leads off to the left of the chamber. There are some calcite deposits (speleothems) in each of the avens and the floor is covered with gravel and breakdown slabs. CAVE LIFE: Small and large spiders (Heteropoda?) and harvestmen, Opiliones (after Dowswell & Brooks 2000.02.14 Mss: Krem Mawshun 3; Jarratt 2000.02.14 Mss: Cave Log; Brooks 2000.05.29 personal correspondence).treamway off to the left and about towards 045° leads after 6 m to a chamber.
