25.376300,92.552900
Description
No cave entrance has become known of a 17 m high cavity (note 1), which was accidentally intersected while drilling a borehole in the Sah Hati area (N25°22': E92°33' to N25°23': E92°34'). ETYMOLOGY: The Khasi verb -sah- means to remain, to lag or stay behind; to ellbow, to strike, to ram (SINGH, N 1906: 180) and the Khasi (Hindi) loanword -u hati- is an elephant (SINGH, N 1906: 81). SITUATION: With the drill head at 964 m asl, the bore hole went through a succession of altogether 52 m of sandstone and limestone (note 2) till it entered (52 m below 964 m asl = 912 m asl) a 17 m high cavity (between 895 m and 912 m asl) with its floor (895 m asl) approximately 40 m or 45 m vertically above the current flood-plain level (circa 850 m asl) of the Litang River valley (horizontally between 700 and 1200 m approximately ESE from the borehole). No cave entrance has become known of a 17 m high cavity (note 1), which was accidentally intersected while drilling a borehole in the Sah Hati area (N25°22': E92°33' to N25°23': E92°34').
