Description

Martin Ellis - 27/03/2020

This is the largest of a series of caves to the south of Ban Hong. A steep flight of steps leads up through deciduous/bamboo forest to the edge of a collapsed doline 50 m across and divided by a magnificent natural arch. A concrete pathway leads down through the imposing cave entrance to a series of sparsely decorated chambers. After 150 m a short detour leads to an upper level gallery with a good view of the rest of the cavern. The main path skirts around a fine group of active stalactites and stalagmites to a point where the passage suddenly narrows and takes an unexpected U-turn before entering another sizeable chamber with a large colony of bats and an unpleasant atmosphere. The main passage is said to carry on for a considerable distance beyond.
