Description
A vertical rift with a [relatively] small bridge over it was interpreted as a seasonal sink, rift and meander which consists of rift / pitch of 15 m leading to a tight meander passage in clean washed rock closing in a breakdown after 100 m (Furlong, I 2011.02.23 Mss: Marriage Cave.doc) and preents human visitors to penetrate the inaccessible continuation. ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known cave name has been identified for what was initially dubbed Pit Bridge (David Cooke 2010.02.13). Later, upon having discovered that Lindsay was not married to any Scottish girl and that the visitable part of this cave is closing in a breakdown after 100 m (Furlong 2011.02.23 Mss: Marriage Cave.doc), the name of this tight meander passage was kindly dedicated to the marriage of Lindsay and Rachellyne by Imogen Furlong (ARBENZ, T 2012: 246). SITUATION: Imogen Furlong understood that the cave entrance to this rift cave lies not only in an unspecified setting in an unidentified loction but also in several unidentified spatial relations to each and every landmark and known cave entrance in the vicinity. APPROACH: To reach the cave entrance to AA Cave (Furlong 2011), from the far (north-east) end of the Kseh football pitch [note 1] behind the church, Furlong (2011.02.23 Mss: Marriage Cave.doc) suggests to take the footpath towards west [note 2] and valley bottom [note 3]. Hence, it is easy to see through Imogen Furlong's suggestion to rely on GPS position (sic). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2011a: … the shaft … is a deep gryke … A 15m pitch led to a tight passage reminiscent of Wretched Rabbit in Easegyll. After initial humidity, there is a slight draft in the passage and snot gobblers present. Imo pushed a tight section of passage for about 20 m. Unfortunately no-body [nobody? no buddy?] was in the frame of mind to push it further and so the team went to check out the other shafts (anonymous Arbenz, T et al. 2011.03.27 undated Mss: 2011 Diary.doc: Tuesday 22nd February 201). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2011b: Rift / pitch of 15 m leading to a tight meander passage in clean washed rock. Closing in a breakdown after 100 m (Furlong 2011.02.23 Mss: Marriage Cave.doc). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2012: Seasonal sink, rift and meander. Rift / Pitch of 15 m leading to a tight meander passage in clean washed rock. Closing in a breakdown after 100 m (ARBENZ, T 2012: 246). TACKLE: Two bolts and some 20 m of rope (Furlong 2011.02.23 Mss). PROSPECTS: Unfortunately no-body [no buddy? nobody?] was in the frame of mind to push it further and so the team went to check out the other shafts (anonymous Arbenz, T et al. 2011.03.27 undated Mss: 2011 Diary.doc: Tuesday 22nd February 2011). In the face of the ongoing continuation, Imogen Furlong (2011.02.23 Mss: Marriage Cave.doc) simply decided to declare the topographical cave survey finished. Anonymous (2011.03.27 table 2011 Logbook.xls) confirms 23/02/2011: IF, NB: Marriage Cave (100.21 m) surveyed the [survey of the] cave to completion. CULURAL HISTORY: None known to Imogen Furlong (2011.02.23 Mss). CAVE LIFE: Imogen Furlong (2011.02.23 Mss: Marriage Cave.doc) reports to have noticed on 23rd February 2011 during day time the presence of snot gobblers (larval stage of fungus gnats, Diptera: Mycetophilidae) which is generally interpreted to indicate perenially moist air conditions combined with a mellow air current. Arbenz, T. et al. (2011.03.27 undated Mss: 2011 Diary.doc: Tuesday 22nd February 2011) draw attention to initial humidity, … a slight draft in the passage and snot gobblers present.1). History
EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2011.02.13, trip 1: Imogen Furlong, Helen Brooke, Angela Arbenz and Ksan Kupar 'Ronnie' Mawlong located the cave [entrance] (Furlong 2011.02.23 Mss: Marriage Cave.doc). Imo, Hellie, Angela and Ronnie … walked back [from the –>Hostage Cave] to camp and did a little prospecting along the way finding Marriage Cave and Gryke Pit, two possibilities. On return to the camp, Imo started to pack some tackle … and Hellie played local skipping with children (anonymous Arbenz, T et al. 2011.03.27 undated Mss: 2011 Diary.doc: Sunday, 13th February 2011). 2011.02.22, trip 2: Imogen Furlong, Helen Brooke, Angela Arbenz and Ksan Kupar 'Ronnie' Mawlong descended and found the meander passage which Imogen Furlong and Nicola Balyley or another lady surveyed to a breakdown (note 4) while Peter and Angela Glanvill exploited the cave as the background for a photo trip (Furlong 2011.02.23 Mss: Marriage Cave.doc). Imo, Ronnie, Nicky, Peter Ludwig and Barry went to the Marriage Cae to drop the shaft. This is a deep gryke, that we GPSd on 13/2/2011. … Imo pushed a tight section of passage for about 20 m. Unfortunately no-body [sic! qua: 'nobody' aut: no buddy] was in the frame of mind to push it further and so the team went … (anonymous Arbenz, T et al. 2011.03.27 undated Mss: 2011 Diary.doc: Tuesday 22nd February 2011).2011.02.23, trip 3: Imogen Furlong and Nicky Bayley returned to Marriage Cave to perform a truely heroic, if not even a teutonic deed insofar as the two of them surveyed to a breakdown (anonymous Arbenz, T et al. 2011.03.27 undated Mss: 2011 Diary.doc: Wednesday 23rd February).
