Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

An unsurveyed cave entrance of unidentified size in the shape of a rift without identified dimensions and orientation) above entrance are two [relatively] large boulders (Audsley, A U 2010.02.10 Mss: Krem Dait Krong 3) gives access to a drop of roughly 4–5 m (need rope). Below can be seen passage (wide, low-ceilinged) heading roughly north-west. Pools of water (Audsley, A U 2010.02.10 Mss: Krem Dait Krong 3). This cave entrance was found to give access to Krem –>Mankrem (note 1) but remained not surveyed and was used as access to Krem Man Krem during the whole surveying period because this cave entrance allows sports cavers in search of recreational expedition adventures to negotiate a short drop into Krem Man Krem Main Passage and easy access to the same, avoiding the unpleasant (sewer) entrance series (Arbenz, T 2011.10.12 Mss Annie Audsley 12thFeb.2010 Krem Dait Krong 3: 10.2.2010). ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known name has been identified for what has been hristened Krem Dait Krong 3 due to the cave entrance's unidentified spatial relation to the cave entrance of the true Krem –>Dait Krong, which lies about 48 m in a direct line further east. ETYMOLOGY: Audsley, A U (2010.02.10 Mss: Krem Dait Krong 3) interpreted the Synteng (Khasi) cave name -Krem Dait Krong- as Cave of the Krong Bite. Tiger-like creature. Thomas Arbenz interpreted Annie U Audsley's interpretation as Cave where the Krong (tiger-like creature) bites (Arbenz, T 2011.10.12 Mss: Annie Audsley 12thFeb.2010 Krem Dait Krong 3: 10.2.2010). SITUATION 2010: In rift between karst at furthest end the Cave [entrance] is among the karst (lower section) below the rubber-tree [note 2] and KDK2 and slightly to the south-east of them. The rift, which the cave is sited in, has [in February 2010] roots growing down the middle & one side, following where water has flowed (Audsley, A U 2010.02.10 Mss: Krem Dait Krong 3). POSITION 2010: N25°26'03.2”: E092°35'01.2”: 741 m asl / N25.43222°: E92.583667°: 741 m asl (WGS84, possibly deceitful precision error allegedly ±8 m, Audsley, A U 2010.02.10 GPS Garmin Etrex). POSITION 2011: N25°26'02.1”: E092°35'01.9”: 777 m asl / N25.433917°: E92.583861°: 777 m asl (WGS84, possibly deceitful precision error allegedly ±11 m, Arbenz, T 2011.10.12 Mss: Annie Audsley 12thFeb.2010 Krem Dait Krong 3: 10.2.2010 after Audsley, A U 2010.02.10 GPS Garmin Etrex). POSITION 2013: Thomas Arbenz told me it is -practical- to have one single GPS position for the two distict cave entrances to Krem Dait Krong 2 and Krem Dait Krong 3 because -Peter and Roger resurveyed these caves with the help of a GPS receiver- and the two -cave entrances are 8 m apart- from each other (Arbenz, T 2013.10.11 personal correspondence). APPROACH: Take the road heading North from Umkyrpong village for roughly 100m from the (southern) football pitch. Turn off the road at N25°26’03.0”: E92°34’58.3” where the edge of the jungle curves away from the road. Cross the crubby land to the jungle, heading towards the tallest tree. When you reach the karst outcrop climb up to the top of this to the large rubber tree. The cave is among the karst (lower section) below the rubber tree and Krem Dait Krong 2 and slightly to the SE of them. The rift in which the cave is sited has roots growing down the middle and one side. Follow it where water has flowed. Above the entrance are two large choke stones (Arbenz, T 2011.10.12 Mss: Annie Audsley 12thFeb.2010 Krem Dait Krong 3: 10.2.2010). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2010: Successfully applied peeping down techniques yielded results interpreted as having the impression that Below can be seen passage (wide, low-ceilinged) heading roughly north-west. Pools of water (Audsley, A U 2010.02.10 Mss: Krem Dait Krong 3). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2011a: Rift and short slope and scramble into Krem Man Krem (Arbenz, T 2011.10.12 Mss: Annie Audsley 12thFeb.2010 Krem Dait Krong 3: 10.2.2010: Evaluation). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2011b: The entrance is a4 m-drop in a rift cutting straight straight into Krem Man Krem Main passage (Arbenz, T 2011.10.12 Mss: Annie Audsley 12thFeb.2010 Krem Dait Krong 3: 10.2.2010: Entrance description). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2011c: A short drop into Krem Man Krem Main Passage and easy access to the same, avoiding the unpleasant (sewer) entrance series (Arbenz, T 2011.10.12 Mss: Annie Audsley 12thFeb.2010 Krem Dait Krong 3: 10.2.2010: Cave description). CAVE CLIMATE: At an unidentified time (probably noon or afternoon) on 10th February 2010, Audsley (2010.02.10 Mss: Krem Dait Krong 3) noticed drafting (draughting) and possibly meant an outward flowing air current (without identified discharge). CAVE LIFE: It is unknowable if Arbenz, T (2011.10.12 Mss Annie Audsley 12thFeb.2010 Krem Dait Krong 3: 10.2.2010) recorded the presence of bat for this cave or copied the three letters bat inadvertently from another digital file.4 m-drop in a rift cutting straight straight into Krem Man Krem Main passage (Arbenz, T 2011.10.12 Mss: Annie Audsley 12thFeb.2010 Krem Dait Krong 3: 10.2.2010: Entrance description). History

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2010.02.10, trip 1: It was one Philip Tangliang (Audsley, A U 2010.02.10 Mss: Krem Blang) or Philp Tangliang (Anonymous et al. 2010.03.29 Mss: Diary (current) 2010.doc) from the village of Umkyrpong, who guided one Kyrmen AA, Annie U. Audsley, Angela Arbenz, a kind of Henry (either a hanging boulder or the caver Henry B. Dawson), and a certain Dabid (sic! qua: David Cooke) to the entrance of a … further cave … in the same vicinity bothpes [sic!], but entrances were GPS’s with poor accuracy (Anonymous et al. 2010.03.29 Mss: Diary (current) 2010.doc). Arbenz, T (2011.10.12 Mss Annie Audsley 12thFeb.2010 Krem Dait Krong 3: 10.2.2010) recorded for 10th Feb 2010 that A. Arbenz, A. Audsley, H. Dawson, D. Wahlang, K. Rani and guide Philip Tangliang visited the cave. 2010.02.11, trip 2: Henry B. Dawson), Annie U. Audsley, Imogen Furlong and a marine (Indian Navy) erroneously called Amulta (sic!) instead of Amulya Prasad Parihar exercised futility, arrived at believing to ave dropped a so-called Krem Daitrong 3 (sic! qua: Krem Dait Krong 3) but then went away having neither shafts surveyed (Anonymous et al. 2010.03.29 Mss: Diary (current) 2010.doc). Arbenz, T (2011.10.12 Mss Annie Audsley 12thFeb.2010 Krem Dait Krong 3: 10.2.2010) recorded 12th Feb 2010 P.Ludwig and R.Galloway descended into Krem Man Krem. Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018
