Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A low entrance to a shallow cave ending in blockage yielded the male holotype (note 1) and female paratype (note 2) of Heteropoda fischeri JÄGER (2005). SITUATION 1 (Jarratt 2001.02.18 Mss): Follow path from top entrance to Krem –>Labit towards the Sutnga I.B., over a hill. The low cave entrance can be seen on the right. SITUATION 2 (Alan Jeffreys 2001.02.23 Mss): Follow Shaktiman track to west of IB to obvious karst outcrop on the right. Climb path on right hand side of spur housing Krem –>Labit near the Sutnga I.B., for short distance into a -ram- (jungle cleared for cultivation). The entrance is a low letterbox on the left, right beside the path. CAVE DESCRIPTION (Jeffreys 2001.02.23 Mss): The letterbox shaped entrance leads to low chambers some 8 m long. At far end a climb down leads to lower chambers roofed by a huge piece of breakdown (the floor of the upper chamber). On the right two small fissure passages coalesce and end in an earth / stone choke. Most of the cave's floor i covered with dry gravel and earth with boulders. CAVE LIFE: C.W. Fischer collected on 25.02.2001 spiders (Arachnida: Aranea) of both small (one specimen of Pholcidae?) and of monumental size (Fischer, C W collected on 25.02.2001 two samples of Sparassidae: Heteropoda fischeri JÄGER 2005) in addition to a scorpion (one specimen of Arachnida: Scorpiones). covered with dry gravel and earth with boulders. History

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2001.02.18: Anthony 'Tony' R Jarratt explored estimated 18 m of passage. Anthony 'Tony' R. Jarratt (2001.02.18 Mss 'Logbook' 9: 86) narrates having discovered on 18th February 2001 the well-known Krem Labbit (2) at Sutnga … 18 m of cave (mcra.org.uk/logbooks/?dir=jrat accessed 2008.12.05).2001.02.23: Alan Lawrence 'Goon' Jeffreys and Peter Ludwig, assisted by Christian W. Fischer, boasted to have 'surveyed' (sic!) a cave passage length of 18.9 m and an estimated additional 4 m to the final blockage. No cave plan was drawn. 2001.02.25: Christian W. Fischer collected a new species of giant spiders: Arachnida: Araneae: Sparassidae: Heteropodinae: Heteropoda fischeri Jäger (2005: 92-95, figures 29-42). Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018
