Description
NOTE 1: The Hindi "char" is the number »four« and the Hindi (Arabic loanword) "minar" is a word for a »tower, turret, minarett« in many Indo - Persian languages but "The Charminar" in India is a relatively huge, urban building cornered by four tall towers, and constituting a prominent landmark in the Muslim capital of Hyderabad (17°22'31”N: 78°28'28”E) on the Deccan plateau in Andhra Pradesh, South India.
A doline (25 m by 15 m wide and 20 m deep) descends (dip 30° to south-east) to a 6 m wide pothole with a 20 m deep shaft and, opposite across, to some 25 m of accessible cave passage (5 m wide and 3 m high). ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known name has been identified for what has been christened after a cigarette brand named after the Charminar (note 1). SITUATION: At an estimated distance of 100 m in an unidentified direction from the cave entrance to –>Cat Cave 3, the third »Krem Plat« (Boycott, A. & Sandford, E 1999.02.06 Mss: Krem Plat 6/2/9).
