At the foot of a mountain which lies about 200 m east of the mazar / ziarat (sanctuary and pilgrimage site) with the grave (dargah) of the Muslim saint Seyyed Mokhtar / Sayed Mukhtar (Lindberg's Sayyed Abdollah Mokhtar) positioned at N34°23'20”: E62°11'01” (WGS84, nima.mil/geonames accessed 28.05.2004) and at a linear distance of about 5 km NNE of Herat city.

A vaulted cave entrance (3 or 4 m wide and up to about 2 m high) gives access to a small ante-chamber with a 3 m or 4 m long cave passage and a couple of impenetrable fissures: A closer look reveals this -cave- is an old marble quarry (note 1). CAVE LIFE: LINDBERG (1958) recorded and collected near the entrance Hymenoptera (Vespida) and, in the interior, Arachnida (Araneida).
