Description
A pothole near a stand of the Soh Syllei (a kind of bamboo) rising from an ocean of thorns and briars flourishing in the south of the cow-sheds approximately east below the village of Shnongrim and on the eastern side of the Shnongrim ridge. ETYMOLOGY: Larsing Sukhlain (2002.02.24, personal communication) suggested to call this cave entrance Krem Soh Shylle and Soh Syllei is a kind of bamboo (note 1). The Khasi noun ”u 'péh sylli” is an abbreviation of ”u spéh sylli” and means a very sharp spike made from a species of bamboo called sylli; a ready witted person (SINGH, N 1906: 153).An unackowleged lady teacher from Shnongrim suggested to spell Krem Soh Sylle (Arbenz, circa 2007.02.25 Mss -Korrekturen 2007- undated) instead of Krem Soh Shylle (H.D. Gebauer 2002.02.24 after Sukhlain, Larsing 2002.02.24 personal communication). CAVE DESCRIPTION: The irregularly shaped pothole entrance, something like 3 to 5 m wide, leads to a (first?) floor about 10 m down. The entrance offers, to startexploration, lots of natural belays in limestone and vegetation. CAVE CLIMATE: The entrance emits a cool air current. PROSPECTS (Gebauer 2002.02.24): Possibly part of the locally assumed drainage system from Krem –>Paupau (via Krem –>Syoi nos. 1 and 2?) to Krem –>Wah Ralo.exploration, lots of natural belays in limestone and vegetation.
