An unspecified natural cave (no name mentioned) situated somewhere in Mandi district (note 1) made it to the news (note 2) when people from a village (no name mentioned) killed what journalists called a -leopard- (cheetah?): Villagers kill leopard.- A leopard died of asphyxiation in a Himachal Pradesh village after angry villagers allegedly fanned smoke inside the cave they had chased it into. According to wildlife officials who found the carcass of the leopard in a forest in Mandi district, the animal had died due to inflicted trauma. The leopard had apparently killed a goat that belonged to the villagers. The officials found the carcass of the leopard Thursday, several days after the killing had taken place, a newspaper report said. -We believe angry villagers chased the male leopard after it had killed a goat. They blocked its cave with boulders and then caused it to suffocate with smoke,- said Rajiv Gupta, wildlife official. -After removing its valuable skin, teeth and claws, the arcass was left in the open to rot,- he said.
