Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

Not much of a true cave but a daylight-lit bogaz (note 1), which was not only estimated to range in height between 15 m and 20 m, but also was suspected to give access to the entrance of a vertical cave (pothole) with an undescended shaft or pitch. ETYMOLOGY: The made up, Pseudokhasi field name -Krem Dieng Synrem- was meant to refer to a Poison Plant Cave but translates as Stinging Shrub Cave (note 2).APPROACH: According to Harper (undated 2001.02.22 Mss: Krem Dngiem Synrem) and Harper (2002.04.31 Mss -megahlay.doc- entry # 32), this karst surface feature is reached from unspecified quarry buildings which stand not only at a point with an unidentified GPS position but also at a place with an unidentified spatial relation at (sic) the village of Mawlong: Take the road towards Sohra (Cherrapunjee) and reach after 250 m a bifurcation without GPS position. Take an allegedly obvious (motorable?) track towards something along the lines of one or another the left (without identified directio), which leads after some 500 m to a tentatively old (abandoned?) limestone quarry. Walk through this quarry and continue for an unspecified distance into an unidentified direction up to the dry bed of a stream with an unidentified name, which flows in an unspecified direction and sinks after an unidentified distance at a limestone cliff of unspecified dimensions and orientation. At an unidentified height above this cliff is an unroofed canyon (sic!). On the top of this, there is a vertical cave entrance between boulders. CAVE DESCRIPTION 2001: Harper (undated 2001 February Mss) understood this shaft is a sink leading after some 25 m to an undescended, unexplored and unsurveyed 10 m pot. CAVE DESCRIPTION 2002: The adventure sports training device allows exercising the negotiation of a 15 m pitch (2.5 by 2.5 m) to cobble floored chamber (4 by 4 m), then 15 m of passage, (4 by 4 m, with constriction halfway) to rock wall and cobble choke in floor. Passage on left 5 m to boulder choke (Hrper (2002.04.31 Mss -megahlay.doc- entry # 32). CAVE LIFE: Harper noticed what looked like spiders (conf. Arachnidae).), which leads after some 500 m to a tentatively old (abandoned?) limestone quarry.
