»On our way back [note 1] we stopped at Konain and noticed a pothole sink 150 [deleted: feet] yds [137 m] from the rest house where a small stream disappears underground. We duly dug the place for an entrance, but had not time to get results. It is a likely place, & might justify the attentions of another party. There was also a dupish fissure that might be got into on the cliff edge nearest to Konain temple …« (Leakey, Robert D. 1946.08.20 Mss). SITUATION: A »… blocked sink with a small catchment area« (note 2) is situated »a short distance to the rear of the [Konain Forest Rest House] building« (LEAKEY 1955: 60).
NOTE 1: On the way back from the Kudog Forest Rest House and the Lower –>Swift Hole. NOTE 2: »catchment area« (Leakey, R D) designates an obvious stream bed (headwaters) or a closed depression draining surface water straight into a cave entrance enterable by soldiers or humans.
