Description
A fabulous sacred -cave- in a most unlikely geological situation is believed by the inhabitants of Ungma village to exist below a roofed plinth supporting a Ao Naga long drum in a relatively poor state of repair: A narrow, allegedly vertical cave entrance -- on 30th December 2012 covered with crumbling concrete -- was said to have given access to a large cave chamber inhabited by many devils. CULTURAL HISTORY - Cave legend: Imna Longkumer, descendent of leading Ungma ancestors, to me (2002.12.29) that many wild and weird stories are woven around this -cave-, most including ill deaths due to evil spirits. The fabulous cave is said, for example, to have omitted the sound (tune?) after which the traditional song was composed that formerly was sung when mithun were sacrificed -- a remote memory of using sacrifice pits?
