A pit whence the materials of a subterranean vault consisting of large slabs were removed, some of which are lying about the mouth of the hole (CONGREVE 1879: 151) is situated within the precincts of Avanashi (N11°12': E077°17'), which lies some 30 km along the road from Coimbatore (N11°00': E076°58') to Salem (N11°39': E078°10').
