A »tepid spring issues from Mesozoic limestone« (LYDEKKER 1883: 42) at »Kiramchi« (note 1), which lies at an unspecified distance »to the east north-east of Akhnúr« (note 2). At a linear distance of 25 km east-northeast of Akhnur, in the approximate region indicated by Lydekker, the three districts of Jammu, Riasi (Reasi) and Udhampur meat near N33°: E75° at a point where the four AMS sheets NI43-10, NI43-11, NI43-14 and NI43-15 meet.

NOTE 1: »Kiramchi« (LYDEKKER 1883: 42) is not identified. The town of Akhnur is indicated near N32°52': E074°44' (nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003) on AMS sheet NI43-14 (U502 series) on the banks of Chenab River and at a distance of »14 miles« (23 km) along the road north-west from Jammu town (N32°44': E074°52'). NOTE 2: »Akhnur« (LYDEKKER 1883: 42), positioned not only as Akhnur (N32°52': E074°44' nima.mil/geonames, accessed 16.11.2003) but also as Akhnur (N32°54': E074°44' nima.mil/geonames, accessed 16.11.2003), is indicated as »Akhnur« near N32°53': E074°44' on AMS sheet NI43-14 Sialkot (U502 series, 1959 edition) but as »Akhnoor« in the India Road Atlas (Eicher Goodearth 2006: 2 B5). »Akhnoor ¬ The Chenab meets the plains here, 32 km north-west of Jammu. This used to be the route to Srinagar in the Moghul era« (LONELY PLANET, India 1990: 223).
