Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

An obvious doline without noteworthy shape or dimensions contains a cave entrance without noteworthy shape or dimensions, which leads to a pothole that gives the impression of needing a 7 m handline to get in that entered for a distance that felt like 50 m (Cowper 2007.02.27 Mss: Temporarily Lazy Cave). SITUATION: According to Cowper (2007.02.27 Mss), this item lies at an unexplainable location. APPROACH (Cowper 2007.02.27 Mss): Follow as best as possible the valley that runs down directly in front of the camp [note 1]. Here, in an area with lots of possible cave entrances that were discovered over and over again, lies Cowper's Temporarily Lazy Cave (according to the disputable GPS position recorded) somewhere about halfway between Krem –>Dalaheh (or: AA Cave -F-) and the –>AA CAVE 3 (Ware & Bayley), which is suspected to be identical with the Krem –>Krang 1 (Ware & Bayley). CAVE DESCRIPTION 1: Cowper (2007.02.27 Mss): The cave after the initial 5-7 m descent spirals down in boulder to [estimated] about –15 to -20 m, where the bouders get smaller, then helmet off etc. CAVE DESCRIPTION 2: Brooks, S J et al. (2007.03.01 Mss: Diary2007.doc Tue 27th Feb): A larger doline … with an 8 m shaft … dropped to a draughting boulder choke … named … Lazy Shaft. PROSPECTS: Cowper (2007.02.27 Mss: Temporarily Lazy Cave description): Might go, may not. Would not be a first priority as it looks to be a small entrance close to Umthloo passage underneath. CAVE CLIMATE: Cowper (2007.02.27 Mss: Temporarily Lazy Cave evaluation) found the funny thing is that you feel the draught [of air current] from outside, yet once in the cave there seems to be no trace of it. to [estimated] about –15 to -20 m, where the bouders get smaller, then helmet off etc. CAVE DESCRIPTION 2: Brooks, S J et al. Histoire

EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2007.02.27: Quentin 'Cooper' Cowper (2007.02.27 Mss) entered a so-called Temporarily Lazy Cave for a distance that felt like about 50 m.Brooks, S J et al. (2007.03.01 Mss: Diary2007.doc Tue 27th Feb): Quentin 'Cooper' Cowper, Ian McKenzie, Herbert Jantschke, Rhys Williams and Amanda 'Mandie' or 'Mandy' Edgeworth went to investigate a doline visible from camp which turned out to be a soil filled depression. They continued searching the area and c200 m north a larger doline was found with an 8 m shaft which Quentin dropped to a draughting boulder choke. They named it the Lazy Shaft.
