Location
Wat Sunyataram is located 20 km north of Thong Pha Phum along the H323. From the wat take the track which goes north-east as far as the house of Phra Khoan which is located on the summit of a small karst hillock which is reached by a climb of 40 m on wooden ladders. On the left the track continues, helped with bamboo ramps. At two bifurcations go right. The path descends on the side of a cliff in a large doline. At the foot of the ladders take the path to the left, which passes below a bamboo house. After 200 m the path grips on the side of the doline. The main entrance (20 m wide and 40 m high) isn't visible until the last moment. 50 m below to the left and following the cliff one reaches the second entrance (5 m wide by 4 m high).
Description
The main entrance (20 m x 30 m) opens onto a very large passage. A column 40 m high and 6 m in circumference divides the passage. To the right of the entrance an easy climb up in a stalagmite coated rift gives access to a decorated chamber that leads to the outside. Back at the big column a shaft 25m in diameter breaks the passage. This is a magnificent pitch of 40 m at the bottom of which a passage quickly becomes impenetrable upstream after 50 m. Downstream the passage is about 30 m. Climbs of up to 25 m where carried out without success, To the left of the big column a short climb down boulders leads to a chamber. At the bottom a chimney 15 m high was climbed. At the end of the chamber there is a low passage which quickly opens up into a passage of good size. Very quickly a big stalagmite flow is met which ascends up to a chimney about a dozen metres high which leads to the second entrance. At the foot of the flow there is another passage blocked with large corroded boulders, but a way through couldn't be found.
