Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A stooping size [cave] entrance (w1m x h1.3m) gives access to a comparatively well decorated (in the sense of containing secondary calcite formations / speleothems) perennial stream cave that has been indentified as the upstream section (Arbenz, T 2011.03.27 Mss ”Nicola Bayley 2011.02.21” Krem Bsein 2 / Krem Bsein (upstream) 14.2.2011). Noticed inside the cave has been in February 2011 a sandy, cobbled floor with occasional pools of water. Dry relic [secondary calcite] formations [speleothems] and crystals (Arbenz, T 2011.03.27 Mss ”Nicola Bayley 2011.02.21” Krem Bsein 2…). SITUATION: The cave entrance to the second cave on the Wah Bsein lies somewhere in a gully represented by what had been in February 2011 a dry stream bed (Bailey 2011.02.14 Mss: Krem Bsein 2.doc) somewhere above the orographically right (locally eastern) bank of the Kopili River and not only in an unidentified location in the upper reaches of a generally westward draining but unidentified the gully (apparently of te Wah Bsein) but also in unspecified spatial relations (note 1) to the three identified cave entrances of the first Krem Wah Bsein (Arbenz, T 2011.03.27 Mss ”Nicola Bayley 2011.02.21” Krem Bsein 2…). APPROACH: Though we can safely assume that the distinct cave entrances of Krem Wah Bsein no. 1 and Krem Wah Bsein no. 2 lie at different locations, Bailey (2011.02.14 Mss: Krem Bsein 1.doc) and Bailey (2011.02.14 Mss: Krem Bsein 2.doc) describe exactly the same route of approach (note 2). CAVE DESCRIPTION 2011: The upstream cave entrance (Krem Bsein 2) yielded 255 m of survey length. The cave passage, initially of stooping height to eventually emerge into a dry, wide and high passageway, where on a high level oxbow passage [sic! qua: bypass], a lot of animal droppings (porcupine, confirmed by Manuel) was found and photographed (anonymous Arbenz, T et al. 2011.03.27 undated Mss: 2011 Diary.doc: 14th February 2011, Monday). DEVICE DESCRIPTION: Seen through the lense of a sports caver, the aventure sports training device … starts at the base of a gully. First it is of stooping size and of meander character leading towards NW. At Stn 1/9 it angles off to SW and opens gradually into a larger passage (w5m x h3.5m) with occasional pools [of water]. The [air-filled parts of the cave] passage stays dry and gets bigger (w8m x h6m) leading to a junction. The way straight on is a very low wet crawl with no draught, closing down. To the left (West) a sandy stooping passage goes on for a good 300 m with copious amounts of [relatively] large animal faeces (later determined as porcupine faeces). To the right (SW) a rock fall narrows the way on to w1m x h1m. This passage joins the main passage after about 120 m. The main passage (Porcupine Passage) eventually closes down in [sic! qua: gives access to] a sump. The side passages end in [sic! qua: lead to] muddy crawls, closing down too (Arbenz, T 2011.03.27 Mss ”Nicola Bayley 2011.02.21” Krem Bsein 2…). CAVE POTENTIAL: The cave is stillongoing but the first attempt of preliminary surveying was terminated (Arbenz, T 2011.03.27 Mss ”Nicola Bayley 2011.02.21” Krem Bsein 2…). CULTURAL HISTORY: None known (Arbenz, T 2011.03.27 Mss ”Nicola Bayley 2011.02.21” Krem Bsein 2…). CAVE LIFE: Nicola Bailey is said to have noticed in February 2011 not only copious amounts of [relatively] large animal faeces later determined as porcupine faeces but also bats, Araneidae Spiders, Snot Gobblers and Mudfish (Arbenz, T 2011.03.27 Mss ”Nicola Bayley 2011.02.21” Krem Bsein 2…). Keywords: Arachnida: conf. Arachnea. Diptera: Mycetophilidae (larval stage of fungus gnats). Pisces. Chiroptera. Rodentia: Hystricidae: prob. Hystrix indica Kerr aut Hystrix bengalensia Blyth.venture sports training device … starts at the base of a gully. First it is of stooping size and of meander character leading towards NW.
