Comparatively large caves (sic! man-made rock-cut chambers) reported LAESSOE (1885: 589) from where Penjdeh [Panjdeh] joins Maruchak [note 1], but the unexpected Russian attack obliging us to leave Penjdeh suddenly, prevented me from going to the place indicated. SIMPSON (in LAESSOE 1886: 96) confirms that Captain de Laessoë was told of some caves near Meruchack.
