WASHING PLACE INLET
25.185800,92.375600
Description
The initially 16 m wide and 14 m high cave entrance faces south-west, soon narrows down to 12 m in width and 10 m in height, and gives access to a complex of cave passages which collectively lead generally east and represent a tributary to the west (orographically right) side of the "Virgin River" (khasified: Wah Thei Sotti) flowing along the mastercave passage of Krem –>Kotsati. ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known cave name has been identified for what foreign cavers referred to as »Washing Place Inlet« due to a nearby and apparently perennial source of water, which resident people used (at least in the years 1996 and 1997) to wash kitchen utensils, clothes and themselves in the open air. SITUATION: West of the National Highway NH44 and about 800 m in a direct line approximately NNE (685 m north, -388 m east, and 29 m higher up) from the cave entrance to Krem –>Kotsati (note 1). The cave entrance to Synrang –>Thloo (Kotsati entrance 6) lies about 90 m further north and 130 m further east.
NOTE 1: Krem Kotsati, entrance 1, dubbed "village well" near (±34 m) 25°10'46”N: 92°22'29”E / 25.179444°N: 92.374722°E (Gebauer H D 1995 November unstable 4-channel GPS Garmin 4): circa (±30 m) 650 m asl.
