Description
A natural sacred cave (temple cave) of unknown character and unidentified dimensions is said to contain speleothems and four unspecified idols (note 1). SITUATION: On a hill (no name mentioned) near Ramavaram (note 2), a village 27 km along the road north of Addatigala (note 3), which itself lies 18 km along the road west of Jaddangi (compare the cave at –>Jaddangi) or 30 km north along the road from Somavaram (N17°14': E82°08') on the National Highway NH4. CAVE DESCRIPTION: After Glennie, E. A. (s.a. circa 1948 Mss: Preliminary Record) quoting HEMINGWAY (1907: 228): »Ramavaram contains a traveller's bungalow. On a hill near this village is a small cave in which are four idols. From the rock above hang stalactites from which water drips on to the figures below.« CAVE POTENTIAL: Other caves in the vicinity of Addatigala (Addatigela) are the caves of –>Mandavya Mahamuni, the cave of –>Virabhandra Swami at Jaddangi.
