A man-made rock temple (rock chamber used as a -cave- temple). SITUATION 1883: About a half mile [less than a kilometer] from the village of Ambivale [note 1] near Jambrug [note 2], north from Karjat [N18°55': E073°20'], under the hill fort of Kotalgadh [note 3] (BURGESS, J 1883: 10-11) and to the east of it. SITUATION 1882: The caves at … Jambroog, and Ambivalé, are in the lower scarps of the Sahyadris, near Karjat railway station (in Ahmednagar) (SMITH, G 1882: 276). CAVE DESCRIPTION: It is cut in a long low forming the concave side of a curve in the bank of the river. The cave overlooks the river, being about 20 feet [7 m] above it, --the sloping rock leading up to it from the water.
