Description
A site of archaeological interest (natural cave, rock shelter, or man-made rock chamber) has been reported (note 1) from a place called Kalawan in the (greater) Taxila area. SITUATION: … Kalawan … on the north side of the Margala spur [note 2] about 1.25 miles as the crow flies south-south-east of the Darmarajika [note 3] and rather less than 2 miles [3.2 km] from the Bhir mound city [note 4]. From an inscription found on the spot it appears that in ancient days its name was Chadasila, but no trace of this name has been preserved among the surrounding hamlets. Today the place is known as Kalawan or 'the Caves', from the presence of three small caves in the hillside, which the farmers use for the storing of their hay and grain (MARSHALL, J 1951, 1: 322).A site of archaeological interest (natural cave, rock shelter, or man-made rock chamber) has been reported (note 1) from a place called Kalawan in the (greater) Taxila area.
