Description

Unspecified »caves are seen in the north-western side of the village« of Erragudi (note 1). SITUATION: The »limestone cliffs west and north-west of Erragudi village are the extensions of the Yaganti cliffs which form the eastern fringe of the plateau west of Banaganpalle [note 2]« (Venugopal Rao & Rao 1993 Mss: 2). An anonymous devalam (temple) in this region is always suspect of owning a cave or two and an anonymous devalam is shown on Survey of India sheet 57-i/03 (edition 1983) near N15°23'28”: E78°09'03”: 315 m asl (Everest 1830) about 2 km in a direct line approximately north-west of Erragudi. CAVE DESCRIPTION: »These caves … in the Middle Narji Limestones … are extremely short with lengths not exceeding 1 to 2 m. None of these caves have sediments inside« (Ch Venugopal Rao & C V N K Rao 1993 Mss: 2).
