Description
Two communicating cave entrances (the south-facing 6 m wide and 3.5 m high, the north-facing 5 m wide and 3 m high) give access to a draughting (2001.01.04 16h30) and nearly linear, almost horizontal tunnel cave passage (16 m -04° from 015° to 195°) in sandstone, predominantly formed along bedding planes and characterised by vaulted cross-sections and a hard, dry mud floor with footprints of deer (?). SITUATION: About 5 km west (261°) from the seven way junction (N22°28'26”: E078°26'10”: 1060 m asl Everest 1830) Jaistambha / Jai Stambh (victory pillar) at Pachmarhi and at a spot where the northern cave entrance overlooks the Jambu Dwip valley. APPROACH: To reach the south-facing entrance to Monte Rosa Cave 2, walk from the upper cave entrance to –>Reechgarh (note 1) along the remains of a fair weather road around Monte Rosa Hill, first generally north, later towards west. Near N22°27'57-: E078°23'18-: 1099 m asl (Everest 1830) a faint track (2001 January) ascends circa 30 m noth to the south-facing cave entrance. CULTURAL HISTORY - Human use (4th January 2001): Not only the remains of a fire place and a small bag of salt (?) deposited on a low wall but also an assortment of recent rubbish (shards of broken glass, an empty polythene bottle, a partly burned bicycle tyre, and pieces of of sack cloth) suggest the cave has been used as a picnic spot / partying site.th to the south-facing cave entrance.
