Description
The suspicious place name -Guwarighat- (N23°07': E079°55') translates as ford of the caves and is possibly identical with the Gwari N23°09': E079°52') from where KHAJURIA (1970), which I have not seen, is said to have reported a new species of a leaf-nosed (roundleaf) bat (Chiroptera). Unfortunately I cannot recall how I learned that Khajuria's bats have been collected from artificial caves (man-made rock temples?) and from below boulders. SITUATION: Guwarighat is indicated on the India Road Atlas (Eicher Goodearth 2006: 72 C1) on the south-western outskirts of Jabalpur and on the north (orographically left) bank of the Narmada River. POSITIONS: Guwarighat or Gwari (SRINIVASULU, C 2004a: 4 table) has been positioned near N23°09': E079°52' (probably Everest 1830, SRINIVASULU, C 2004a: 4 table) N23°07': E079°55' (nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003) CAVE LIFE: Not seen: KHAJURIA (1970). SRINIVASULU, C (2004a: 4 table Cantor's roundleaf bat Hipposideros galeritus Cator 1846 in India) lists, among twelve sites, the details of item 6. Gwari, Madhya Pradesh, 23°09'N, 79°52', Khajuria 1970.
