Description
On the one-hand side a »shelter« (GOSH 1964: 99) containing rock art somewhere at »Chandnigarh« in Burhanpur tahsil (note 1) but on the other hand a »rock shelter« (Indian Archaeology: A Review [IAR] 1961-1962: 99) from the vicinity of which microliths were collected at »Chandigarh (Burhanpur tahsil).« SITUATION: »Chandigarh« (IAR 1961-1962) or »Chandnigarh« (GOSH 1964) seems to correspond to garh (fort) above the town of Chandni (note 2) in the Tapti River valley. Not far are the –>Asirgarh undergrounds.
NOTE 1: Burhanpur tahsil covers parts of the area between N21°05': E75°57' and N21°37': E76°48' (IMPERIAL GAZETTEER 1907-1909, 9: 103). NOTE 2: Chandni town N21°26': E076°21' (WGS84) and Chandni railway station N21°25': E076°20' (nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003) in the India Road Atlas (Eicher Goodearth 2006: 70 B5).
