Description
(Membo Hill, Kilwa island, Nchelenge district, Luapula province) Co-ordinates: S09°19'00,8’’; E029°04°04,5’’. Alt. 931 m. The cave is situated immediately at the Lake Mwere shore at the extreme NW corner of Kilwa island. It is formed in limestone of Precambrian age that is sandwiched between sandstone layers. The cave is a maze of mainly small rift-controlled horizontal passages directed in SW-NE (dominant) and NW-SE (subordinate) direction. Explored by the CIRS expedition in 2001.
