Description
A treasure cave (note 1) with an cave entrance visible from far away, apparently housing a lingam sacred to the Hindu god Shiva: 'jambu' is one of Shiva's many epithets. CULTURAL HISTORY - legend: Jambulingam Kughai. When I visited the Kalakad sanctuary [Kalakad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, note 2], my guide showed me a distance hill rock - about a day's walk, a dark spot. He said to me that, it is an entrance to a cave - which was used by an earlier Robinhood like thief called Jumbulingam (A.D. Edward Raj, Bangalore 2002.06.05 personal correspondence). …about a cave used by a robinhood type thief by name Jambulingam. People believe that, he has hidden all the wealth in a cave that can be seen on top of a hill. Then, my brother's father in-law was telling that, there were few caves with stair case that go inside (he actually entered but returned -fearing for dark) and there were many stories about the wealth inside. These places are adjacent to Jambulingam's cave (A. D. Edwrd Raj, Bangalore 2003.05.29 personal correspondence).rd Raj, Bangalore 2003.05.29 personal correspondence).
