Description
An unspecified cave entrance (unidentified shape, unidentified dimensions, unidentified orientation, unidentified characteristics) is said to give access to a certain »Parnapally Cave« (Reddy 1985.03.12 Mss) which is said to be »about 40 m long with 1.72 m [sic!] high entrance. It has an opening of 1.00x 1.40 m, slopes down by 45° to a distance of 9.7 m and the rest is horizontal underground till it narrows down into and unpassable end.« SITUATION: In Cuddapah district and »about a mile [one or two kilometres in an unidentified direction] from Parnapalle [note 1], 55 miles [88.5 km along a road] west of Cuddapah [N14°28': E078°49']« (CRAVEN 1969: 24 after BRACKENBURY 1915: 212, 225 or 232).
NOTE 1: Parnapalle N14°34': E077°59' (nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003) on AMS sheet ND43-08 Anantapur (U502 series, 1961 edition) in Cuddapah district (BRACKENBURY 1915) is shown just beyond the border in Anantapur district on the India Road Atlas (Eicher Goodearth 2006: 108 B4) where the Chitravati River flows north-east through the gap between the Malassakote Hills in the north-west and the Seshachalam Hills in the south-east. CRAVEN (1969: 24) positions »Parnapalle« at N14°34': E078°01' (unspecified precision error, unidentified geodetic datum probably Everest 1830), which would fall on Survey of India sheet 57-J/01 but the Survey of India sheet 57-J (1: 250,00 series, 1986 edition) shows »Parnapalle 3 km« on the left (west) margin pointing to sheet 57-F/14 (not seen by me). The Survey of India 1: 1 mill. sheet Andhra Pradesh (State map series, 1978) shows »Parnapalle« also near N14°34': E077°59' (unspecified geodetic datum probably Everest 1830) and thus on S.I. sheet 57-F/14.
