One of the four most important »caves« sacred to Krishna (note 1) is said to be situated (note 2) at »Gop'h-nat'h [note 3]on the shores of Saurashtra« (TOD 1829-1832 edited 1914, 1997, 1: 433 + note; 1830: 311 + note).

NOTE 1: Krishna, »Vishnu's eighth incarnation, often depicted blue« (LONELY PLANET, India 2005: 1009).NOTE 2: TOD (1829-1832 edited 1914, 1997, 1: 433 + note; 1830: 311 + note) after a Mukhia in Mathura (Muttra). ANDRIAN (1891: 47) refers to a cryptic »TODD (Relig. Etabl. Merwar Trans. R. As. Soc., II, 311)« which stands for TOD (1830: 311). NOTE 2: »Gop'h-nat'h« (TOD 1830) is positioned as Goapnath Point and Gopnath Point at N21°11': E072°06' (nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003) and indicated as »Gopinath« on AMS sheet NF43-09. »Gopnath [is] A beautiful hamlet on the coast of the Gulf of Khambhat and at a distance of 10 km from Talaja, a taluka headquarters in Bhavnagar district [… It is] renowned for the temple of Gopnath Mahadev, where Narsingh Mehta is believed to have performed penance« (travels.talash.com/bhavnagar-zone accessed 2005.11.19).
