Description
There exists the rumour of unspecified temple caves sacred to Krishna (note 1) at "Jalindra on the Indus" (note 2), the modern Jalandhar (note 3) or Jullundur (site of –>Jawala Mukhi), which is situated between the rivers Beas and Sutlej in sort of a far neighbourhood of the Indus.
NOTE 1: Krishna, »Vishnu's eighth incarnation, often depicted blue« (LONELY PLANET, India 2005 glossary: 1009). NOTE 2: TOD (1829-1832 edited 1914, 1997, 1: 433 + note; 1830: 311 + note) learned from a Mukhia in Mathura (Mattra), where Krishna is worshippped like nowhere else, that one of the four most important caves sacred to Krishna is at »Jalindra on the Indus… [which] is described by the Emperor Baber as a very singular spot, having numerous caves. The deity of the caves of Jalindra is the tutelary deity of the Prince of Marwar.« IMPERIAL GAZETTEER (1907-1909, 14: 222): Early legends attribute the name to the Daitya king Jalandhara, who was overwhelmed by Shiva under a pile of mountains. His mouth, the legend says, was –>Jawala Mukhi. ANDRIAN (1891: 47) cites TOD "Relig. Etabl. Merwar Trans. R. As. Soc., II, 311" (i.e. TOD 1830).
