Description
Two »shelters« (note 1) or »caves« (note 2) contain paintings (rock art) depicting animals, humans and tectiforms in black, red and white (AGRAWAL & JOSHI 1978: 75-77, plates 5-8). This item is possibly identical with –>Lakhu Udhyar. SITUATION 1978: AGRAWAL & JOSHI (1978) located this shelter in an unidentified spatial relation »near« a certain village of Dalband (note 3) in one »Suyal river valley« (note 4) and 20 km along a road from in an unspecified direction from Almora (N29°37': E079°40': 1650 m asl) to a place called Barechina (note 5). SITUATION 1988: »The painted rock shelters … [are found] in close proximity of a dolmenoid structure at Dalband near Barechina where stands the famous Lakhu Udyar rock-shelter (Binsar Gad valley) (Joshi, 1974)« (JOSHI 1988: 73).
NOTE 1: »Both these rock-shelters …« (AGRAWAL & JOSHI 1978: 75). NOTE 2: »There is some habitational deposit in one of these caves …« (AGRAWAL & JOSHI 1978: 77). NOTE 3: »Dalband« (or so) is not listed in the India Road Atlas (Eicher Goodearth 2006 index) and on nima.mil/geonames (accessed 16.11.2003) or shown on the India Road Atlas (Eicher Goodearth 2006: 12 B3, D3) and on AMS sheet NH44-10 Almora (U502 series, 1958 edition). NOTE 4: »Suyal« (AGRAWAL & JOSHI 1978) is not identified unless it corresponds to the river Sual which is shown on AMS sheet NH44-10 Almora (U502 series, 1958 edition) to arrive from east of Almora to join near N29°33' E079°38' the river Kali at a confluence about 5 km in a direct line approximately south of Almora (N29°37': E079°40': 1650 m asl).
