Description
A legendary »hole in the earth« (emergence cave) near the miraculous stone at Kezakenoma is noted in a legend of the Lhota Naga tribe (MILLS 1922: 3) where the three brothers »Limhachan, Izumontse and Rankhanda, the ancestors of the three phratries of the tribe, came out of a hole in the earth near the miraculous stone at Kezakenoma.« SITUATION: The village of Kezakenoma (note 1) lies at a travelling distance of about 10 km (8.5 km in a direct line south by west) from Kohima (N25°40': E94°07'). CULTURAL HISTORY: MILLS (1937 frontispiece) shows a monochrome photograph of the sacred stone, whence the Angamis, Semas, Lhotas and Rengmas migrated. According to a tourist information leaflet, the village of »Khonoma« abounds in »stories of valour and courage« (NORTH EAST 1998: 19).
