Description
Concerning the Raipur stage sedimentary rocks in the Chhattisgarh / Raipur basin investigated in the course of »… the Chilhati [note 1] prospect of the Geological Survey of India, the maximum depth of the borehole was limited to 49.25 m b.g.l. [metre below ground level], encountering 9.35 m of cumulative vertical extent of cavities, including a single cavity of 5.90 m and there being as may as eight cavities in a single borehole« (ADYALKAR, P G 1972: 305).
NOTE 1: »Chilhati« (ADYALKAR 1972) is neither shown in the India Road Atlas (Eicher Goodearth 2006: 74 A4) nor positioned on nima.mil/geonames (accessed 16.11.2003) but indicated near N21°47': E082°18' on AMS sheet NF44-11 Raipur (U502 series, 1960 edition) above the north bank of the river Seonath, about 40 km in a direct line approximately SSE of Bilaspur (N22°05': E082°09') and some 2 or 3 km west of Loharsi (N21°47': E082°20').
