TARAGIRI (Cave on)

An elusive cave, which is said to be accessible only with the help of high-angle climbing techniques or rigging technics (Andreas Kretschmar 1991, personal communication), and suspected to be associated with an unknown legend (note 1). SITUATION: At the rock of Taragiri in the vincinity of the Buddhist Karmapa Monastery on Shivapuri (Sheopuri) Dara (Andreas Kretschmar 1991, personal communication). Taragiri seems to lie above 1650 m asl and some 500 m south-east of point 2251 m (Kathmandu Valley 1: 50,000, Schneider), 4.5 km in a direct line north of the temple at Gokarneshwar, and 11.5 km in a direct line north-east of Kathmandu Durbar square. IDENTITY: The cave on Taragiri is probably identical with the Tare Bhir Gupha of KNAB (1990: 6, no.
